Steuben Memorial The Steuben Memorial honors,
Baron Von Steuben, whose valuble
wartime services were second in
importance only to those of
George Washington.
Baron Von Steuben, known as
"The drillmaster of
The American Revolution"
served his first tour of duty in 1777
at Valley Forge.
During the brutal conditions of the
1777-1778 winter is when Steuben converted a ragged, starving army
into an effective fighting force.
In 1804, ten years after his death,
his remains were transferred to what
is known today as "Sacred Grove" and
marked with large, white monument.
